Definitions
Active Release: A movement-based technique where the therapist applies pressure to a specific area while you move the muscle through its range of motion. This neurologically inhibits overactive tissues, providing relief from chronic tension.
IASTM (Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization): The use of specialized tools to gently glide over the skin to detect and treat fascial restrictions. This technique helps "break up" scar tissue and connective tissue adhesions while increasing local circulation.
PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) Stretching: An advanced form of flexibility training that involves both a stretch and a contraction of the muscle group being targeted. This "contract-relax" method communicates with your nervous system to safely increase your range of motion.

Shiatsu Massage
A traditional Japanese bodywork modality rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine that uses rhythmic thumb pressure on specific points along the body’s meridians to influence the flow of vital energy, Qi. Our sole therapist is currently pursuing a certificate in Shiatsu at Northwestern Health Sciences University and is expected to graduate in May 2027.
East-West Massage
A seamless blend of Western clinical techniques and Eastern energetic principles. This session combines the targeted muscle work of a clinical massage with the meridian-based focus of Shiatsu for a truly holistic approach to wellness. Also expected to become available starting May 2027.
Prenatal Massage
A nurturing session specifically designed for the unique physical and emotional needs of the expectant mother. Using side-lying positioning and gentle techniques, this massage focuses on relieving the common discomforts of pregnancy, such as lower back pain, swelling, and fatigue. Our therapist is committed to the highest safety standards and will begin this certification as soon as an accredited course becomes available locally.

ENHANCEMENTS

Cupping
A therapeutic technique using suction dynamically (with movement) and/or statically (placed in one area for 5-15 minutes).
Western Philosophy: The negative pressure of the cups lifts the layers of tissue to soften adhesions (areas of restriction where tissues become bound together) and increase local bloodflow.
Eastern Philosophy: The negative pressure of the cups draws stagnant Qi (vital energy) and blood to the surface to clear energetic blockages along the Traditional Chinese Medicine meridians.
Note: Cupping may leave temporary circular marks on the skin that typically fade within 3–7 days.
Aromatherapy
Essential oils are blended into massage creme/oil to enhance your session through both inhalation and skin absorption.
Available scents and their properties:
-
Lavender- soothing, floral
-
Frankincense- soothing, camphoraceous
-
Rosemary- clarifying, soothing, camphoraceous
-
Cinnamon- energizing, warming, spicy
-
Peppermint- energizing, cooling, minty
-
Eucalyptus- clarifying, sweet, minty
Note: Essential oils are not recommended for individuals with skin sensitivities or botanical allergies.

Hot Towels
Steamed towels are applied to the feet or back to soothe the skin and provide a warm, grounding conclusion to your session.

Hot Stones
Smooth, heated basalt stones are used as an extension of the therapist's hands to melt away tension and allow for deeper muscle access without added pressure.
